Community Education

An informed community is a stronger, safer and more empowered community.
At Macarthur Legal Centre, we work with community organisations and support services to build legal awareness, capability and confidence so that people can better understand their rights, responsibilities and options before legal, housing and family issues escalate.

What we offer

We deliver free community legal education sessions that can be tailored to your community, organisation or support service. Our sessions are practical, plain language and designed to meet the needs of your participants, whether they’re staff, volunteers, clients or community members.

Our community legal education can include:

  • Interactive workshops, talks and question & answer sessions delivered in person or online.
  • Tailored content developed in partnership with your organisation to reflect your audience’s priorities and context.
  • Plain language legal information and resources that help people understand legal issues and how to access help.

Topics we can cover

We regularly present on a broad range of legal subjects including:

  • Family law basics: rights and obligations, separation, property and parenting matters.
  • Elder law and planning for later life: wills, enduring powers of attorney and guardianship.
  • Housing: your rights and responsibilities, private rentals and social housing.
  • Employment rights and workplace issues: unpaid wages, dismissal and discrimination matters.
  • Credit, debt and fines: navigating obligations, enforcement and options.

If you have a specific topic that you would like covered, we’re happy to work with you to develop a session that meets your needs.
